My lab has published a public Global Reforestation Organization Directory in collaboration with Mongabay. We score how well 128 global tree-growing organizations commit to following permanence, ecological, social, and financial best practices. Our goal with this site is to: (i) help potential funders identify organizations that share similar priorities and commit to the highest standards in reforestation efforts, and (ii) incentivize reforestation organizations to more clearly communicate their policies and develop more transparent reporting and data sharing practices. Read the Mongabay article about the new Reforestation Directory here. You can also read our new paper in Journal of Environmental Management summarizing the overall trends we observed.
A few of our latest papers:
Francis Joyce authored a paper in People and Nature reporting on interviews with farmers in three regions of Costa Rica about why they reclear secondary forests on their farms. doi.org/10.1002/pan3.70339
Pedro Brancalion and I published a paper about his spatially-patterned planting study in Brazil - Effectiveness of spatially patterned methods to restore semideciduous tropical forest
Brook Constantz led a paper in Restoration Ecology comparing habitat heterogeneity in restored and reference riparian forests along the Sacramento River.
Dr. Holl's book "Primer of Ecological Restoration" is available in Chinese and Persian. The Spanish and Portuguese versions are available open access.
